Good morning. It is Thursday, November 18, 2021. Jeanette Stark here.
Who did Jesus say He was?
I love how simply Jesus taught. He spoke with such vivid imagery.
Today I want to look at what Jesus called himself.
He said: “I am the Bread of life”
Bread, in the literal sense is something made with flour, water and salt. Perhaps olive oil and leavening, but not always. In the figurative sense it means food…something you need to survive.
A human can survive 1 to 2 months without food, depending on several factors. And just like literal food, we cannot survive this world without Jesus, the Bread of life.
Jesus said: “I am the light of the world”
Without sunlight we become sick. Depression sets in and with prolonged periods of time without light our body cannot make Vitamin C. The result of that is Scurvy: “tiredness, muscle weakness, joint and muscle aches, a rash on the legs, and bleeding gums. In the past, scurvy was common among sailors and other people deprived of fresh fruits and vegetables for long periods of time.” (Source: medical-dictionary.com)
Needless to say, we would not survive long without sunlight. And just like literal sunlight, we cannot survive this world without Jesus, the Light of the world.
I will not take the time to break down every reference today, but just look at the following and imagine what that means in your life.
Jesus said: I am the gate of the sheepfold I am the way. I am the law. I am the amen. I am the rock. I am the door. I am the good shepherd. I am the resurrection and life I am the way, the truth and the life I am the vine I am the Alpha and the Omega I Am who I Am, (in other words “I am God”)
While on earth Jesus called Himself many things and they all point to salvation and eternal life.
He is the Messiah “the anointed one or chosen one”, and He came to earth to save you.
“In Abrahamic religions, a messiah…is a savior or liberator of a group of people.” (Source Wikipedia.com)
I love that description. Liberator.
“The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, He will tell us all things.” Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am He.”
Jesus, God, came to this earth to save all those who choose to be saved. It is a choice.
Yesterday I spoke about choice, and nothing is more important in your lifetime than making the choice to follow Jesus! Nothing else can or will save you.
“Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12 NKJV
“And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” Acts 16:30-31 NKJV
“For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,” 1 Timothy 2:5 NKJV
Who was He? Who is He? He is the way. He is the door to eternal life. All you must do is open that door and walk through!
