Good morning. It is Monday, June 21, 2021.
“Before they call I will answer; while they are yet speaking I will hear.” Isaiah 65:24 ESV
This was certainly true for one woman and I know the story first hand.
I wish I could remember the exact date. It was around 2001, 2002...I used to sign off KLDR with a Thought for the Day. They were usually short and witty such as Golda Meir once said "Whether women are better than men I cannot say, but they are certainly no worse"
I would Voice Track on Friday for Sunday's show. By pre-recording our show, we could have the weekends off.
As I was finishing up on Friday, and beginning to share my Thought for the Day, I heard God speak to me. "Jeanette, I want you to share the quote that is above your desk."
My first thought was: “that is too long Lord.” My second thought was "it's a bit Christian for this FM station". But my third thought was, “ok!”
I left the studio and headed for my desk. I took the piece of paper off the wall and returned to the studio. I finished up my work and headed into a weekend and forgot all about it.
Monday rolled around and I was back at work. The phone rang; I answered. A gal said "Hi, I am looking for the station where a woman signed off Sunday afternoon with a type of prayer; something like may you trust God that you are where you should be."
I got excited! I said, "That was me!" She started crying. Through her sobs she asked if I had a minute to talk. I answered OF COURSE. She went on to explain that not one, but both of her young sons suffered from a disease that required they get blood transfusions. One of the blood transfusions was tainted and now both of her boys had HIV.
She was heartbroken. By Sunday afternoon, she was at the end of her rope. She said, “I had to get out of the house and decided to go for a drive.”
As she was driving, she was crying out to God. She said something like: “God if you are there, and if you really care, please give me a sign.”
“Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.” Jeremiah 33:3 ESV
She was suddenly impressed to turn on her radio. She did not often listen to the radio, but today she acted and reached for the dial.
Can you imagine? She prays for a sign and God tells her to turn on the radio. She said she hit scan and her dial landed just as I was signing off. She heard me say these words:
"May today there be peace within you. May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith. May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you. May you be content knowing you are a child of God. Let His presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of us."
We both cried. I was absolutely overcome with thanksgiving in my heart! That God would impress on me on Friday, something that would not be used for His glory until Sunday was just mind-boggling and so very humbling.
There it was! “Before they call I will answer; while they are yet speaking I will hear.”
I was so thankful that, firstly, God had used me to touch this woman. Secondly, that I had heard and obeyed that still, small voice. It was life-changing for her.
Psalm 91:15 ESV “When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him.”
I will leave you with the beautiful words of Psalm 89:1-13
A Prayer of David.
86 Incline your ear, O Lord, and answer me, for I am poor and needy. Preserve my life, for I am godly; save your servant, who trusts in you—you are my God. Be gracious to me, O Lord, for to you do I cry all the day. Gladden the soul of your servant, for to you, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you. Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer; listen to my plea for grace. In the day of my trouble I call upon you, for you answer me.
There is none like you among the gods, O Lord,
nor are there any works like yours.
All the nations you have made shall come
and worship before you, O Lord,
and shall glorify your name.
For you are great and do wondrous things;
you alone are God.
Teach me your way, O Lord,
that I may walk in your truth;
unite my heart to fear your name.
I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart,
and I will glorify your name forever.
For great is your steadfast love toward me;…
