Good morning. It is Thursday, October 28, 2021. Jeanette Stark here.
He is called “son of the dawn”, “morning star”, “son of the morning” his very name means “light-bearer”
Who is he?
Ezekiel the prophet describes him in chapter 28 verses 12-15 “You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone was your covering: the sardius, topaz, and diamond, Beryl, onyx, and jasper, sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes was prepared for you on the day you were created. “You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; you were on the holy mountain of God; you walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones. You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, till iniquity was found in you.”
Did you catch that? He was in the garden of Eden. He had direct contact with Adam and Eve and with God.
He was perfect. He was full of wisdom and beautiful. But apparently that was also his undoing.
Verses 16-17 “…you became filled with violence within, and you sinned; therefore I cast you as a profane thing out of the mountain of God; and I destroyed you, O covering cherub, from the midst of the fiery stones. “Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor; I cast you to the ground, I laid you before kings, that they might gaze at you.”
What is a covering cherub? It is an angel that stands with his wings stretched over God’s throne. Imagine the closeness he had the privilege of!
He “…began his life as a glorious cherub covering God's throne. Before he sinned, this archangel, Hêlêl (“shining one”), had everything going for him. God had created him perfect, wise, and beautiful. He had astounding skills and talents, especially musical talents, which were probably used in praising God. He was given high position as the anointed cherub who covers, meaning that his wings stretched over God's throne. Always at the hub of God's activity, Hêlêl was the perfect specimen of creation—beautiful, wise, talented, skilled, and eminent. Then he spoiled it all through sin.” (source: bibletools.org)
When God created him, he named him Lucifer, and he was perfect in every way. Lucifer means morning star.
I could only find 1 reference to the name Lucifer. After his fall from heaven he had many other names.
“How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations!” - Isaiah 14:12 NKJV
After he was kicked out of heaven, he is called Satan and the devil, dozens and dozens of times.
According to Strong’s Concordance devil and Satan means false accuser, evil spirit, fallen angel, slanderer.
I would think Satan delights in us painting him as an ugly creature in a red jumpsuit, holding a pitchfork. But he can cause himself to look like an angel of light.
“And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.” - 2 Corinthians 11:14 NKJV
We might even go so far as to say he could be handsome and very attractive.
If we can know and understand that Satan and his demons were once heavenly angels then we can begin to get the picture of this great battle of good vs. evil.
Satan knows his time is short. He knows he will not live forever. He knows he will be cast into the lake of fire, and he is determined to take as many of God’s children with him as he can. He does not care about you and me. He only cares about hurting God. And nothing will hurt God more than if you are not in heaven with Him.
“The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are…” Revelation 20:10 NKJV
So, who is he?

Angel of the bottomless pit
Apollyon — Greek for "destroyer"
Beelzebub — "Ruler of the demons"
Father of Lies
King of the Bottomless Pit
Power of Darkness
Prince of the Power of the Air
Ruler of the Darkness

Son of Perdition
Wicked One (source uua.org
He is the wicked one and his time is short!
What should we be doing in the meantime? Three things:
1) “Be sober (self-controlled), be vigilant (watchful); because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” 1 Peter 5:8 NKJV
2) “Therefore…let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author (originator) and finisher (perfecter) of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2 NKJV
3) Remember that Satan is a liar!
“…He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” John 8:44 ESV
The bible tells us there is no truth in him. So, if he is whispering in your ear that you are no good, that you will never be good enough, that God cannot possibly love or save you, you remind him, and yourself, that you are the child of God! As a child of God, you have rights and privileges. You have a home and riches beyond comprehension waiting for you!
