Stop it! You're Scaring the Children!

Good morning. It is Tuesday, October 19, 2021.

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. 1 John 4:18 NKJV

About a year ago I watched a video clip of a man talking to a group of people in an auditorium. I do not know his name or where he was speaking but he said exactly what I was feeling.

Many of us have grown weary. Many of us are tired. Many have lost heart. The reason is we have fixed our eyes on a political system. We have fixed our eyes on a political leader. We have fixed our eyes on the economy and the good ol’ days and the way it used to be and we are growing weary.

“For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls.” Hebrews 12:3 NKJV

He went on to say “and you need to knock it off. Why? Because you are scaring the children!” The place erupted in laughter.

Our children and grandchildren are listening and watching what we say and what we do. They are hearing the older generation talk about how it’s the end of the world if we do not have the right person in office. If we do not fix the economy. And now in this COVID world, it is even worse. There is so much division in family circles and friend circles and work circles that it boggles my mind. Who could have imagined this two years ago?? None of us.

There are people I love and respect who are all for getting vaccinated and believing everything the media says to them through their television sets and smart phone screens.

There are people I love and respect who are totally against getting vaccinated and believe nothing the media is saying to them through their television sets and smart phone screens.

You watch left leaning news and watch right leaning news and you hear two totally different things! It is crazy! Who do you believe? CNN or Fox News?

For instance, here is a headline just from today “Israeli scientist says COVID-19 could be treated for under $1/day. Double-blind study shows ivermectin reduces disease’s duration and infectiousness • FDA and WHO caution against its use”

Who can you trust?

Families and friends have been ripped apart over mask mandates and health solutions.

It breaks my heart!! But here is the thing. If our focus is on this virus. If our eyes are fixed on those who do not think or believe the way we do. If our focus is fear, we all lose. All of us!

Psalm 27:1 NKJV

The Lord is my light and my salvation;

Whom shall I fear?

The Lord is the strength of my life;

Of whom shall I be afraid?

I have not seen one of my closest family members in almost two years because of COVID. This family member would not attend my daughter’s wedding or my granddaughter’s wedding or even Wendell’s service. Fear keeps us apart.

Another family member has lost a very good friend because of my family members desire to wear a mask. The friend disagrees and makes fun of her. Lack of respect has ended a very long friendship.

What can we do??

There is only one solution.

Turn off the news! Instead open your Bible.

Get off the couch and get on your knees.

Stop talking about others and start talking to God.

Stop listening to other people’s opinion and find the only truth worth knowing on the pages of the oldest book in existence.

“Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6 NKJV

There is a saying “Ignorance is bliss.” I am beginning to believe it. The less I know, the better I am. If I cannot change it, why worry about it?

Now, I know some will not agree with me! I know that and I get it. But I am doing what is best for me. I cannot live my life for you. I cannot do what is best for you. That is your job 😊

My focus is in about a 15-mile radius from my home. It is not large in comparison to some, but it is my circle and my focus. Within that circle live most of my best and truest friends. Half of my adult children and a couple of my grandchildren. Within that circle is my church, my work place, my favorite grocery stores and everything I need to survive and thrive. That is my focus.

I do the best I can in my circle. There is nothing I can do for anyone else. I cannot cause them to think the way I do. I cannot change their mind on politics and religion. All I can do is show, by example, that I trust in a living God. That I believe in Jesus Christ. All I can do is witness to how the Holy Spirit changed my life. I can show kindness and gratitude and respect. How about you? Where is your focus?

“A new study from Queen’s University in Canada suggests the average person has more than 6,000 individual thoughts every day.”

Make them count for something good. Make them count for something positive. Make them count for eternity.

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV
