Sharper Than Any Two-Edged Sword

Good morning It is Friday, August 27, 2021.

Hebrews 4:12 tells us the Bible is the Living Word. “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”

My mom says it is the ‘Living Word’ becomes we can read the same passage over and over during our lifetime and then suddenly, something jumps off the page that we never noticed before.

For example, about a year ago something jumped off the pages for me as I was reading 2 Timothy 3:1-5, “But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!”

All my life I thought that was referencing ungodly people, people of the world, the un-churched. But notice in verse 5 it is says “having a form of godliness”. WOW! If they have a form of godliness, they must consider themselves Christians. That was one of those blow-my-mind-moments.

I had another blow-my-mind-moment a couple of weeks ago as I was reading the story of creation.

Now, before I share with you what I found, and I think it is very exciting, let me ask you this. How did God create the earth and all the things on it?

You can read the creation story in Genesis chapter 1. He spoke everything into existence, but we know He formed man from the ground and breathed into man the breath of life and man became a living soul.

God spoke light into existence. He spoke land and water into existence. He spoke fruit trees and vegetation into existence. He spoke the sun, moon, and stars into existence etc. and then on day six he spoke the animals into existence…or did He?

God did not speak animals into existence. He created them from the earth, just like He created humans.

Look at Genesis Chapter 2, verse 19, “Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air…”

WHAT?!? Did I just read that? Did I read that correctly? I read it again. He formed animals out of the ground! He formed birds out of the ground!

If we look back at Genesis 1:24 it almost pops off the page now, “Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind…”

“Let the earth bring forth.” Again, wow!

Now, it does not tell us that God breathed life into the animals in the same way He did humans, and in a way, I hope that was an act He saved just for us. It is such an intimate look at our Creator God. He could have “spoken” us into existence. He could have said “Let there be man” and we would have been just as happy with that, but instead, perhaps kneeling, He molded us from the dirt and then leaned over us and breathed his breath into us. In a way, the first CPR; the breath of life!

“And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.” - Genesis 2:7 NKJV

I love learning new things and I love sharing the things I learn. I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did. Have a great weekend! And remember, Jesus loves you and He is coming soon.
