Give up? Do you know?

What if I included Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Southern, Arctic?

Yes, they are names of the world’s oceans and seas.

listofseas.com names 182 of them!! I had no idea this planet had that many!

Have you ever wondered what the difference is?

What is the Sea?

The expanse of saltwater that covers most of the Earth’s surface and surrounds its land masses is called the Sea. Sea is that part of the ocean that is partially surrounded by land. However, there are cases where the sea is completely landlocked, for example, The Caspian Sea.

What is the Ocean?

An ocean is a body of water that composes much of a planet’s hydrosphere. Over 70% of Earth’s surface is covered with oceans. There are five oceans in the world, the Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, the Arctic Ocean, the Indian Ocean and the Antarctic Ocean. (source byjus.com)

According to usgs.gov About 71 percent of the Earth's surface is water-covered, and the oceans hold about 96.5 percent of all Earth's water. Water also exists in the air as water vapor, in rivers and lakes, in icecaps and glaciers, in the ground as soil moisture and in aquifers, and even in you and your dog. Water is never sitting still.

Let us talk about the ocean today 😊

We know trees and plants provide oxygen; however, the oceans are responsible for a large percentage of the world’s oxygen as well.

According to deepoceanfacts.com the oceans provide up to 70% of the oxygen that we breathe. The phytoplankton in the oceans act as trees. As a result, they release the oxygen that we need to live.

The oceans regulate the climate. Oceans can determine weather, bringing strong winds or rain. They can provide fresh drinking water through desalination. They provide leisure activities, and they reduce carbon dioxide emissions. They have the potential for renewable energy, the aid transportation. (deepoceanfacts.com)

The seas provide food and are a source of income for many.

“Those who go down to the sea in ships, who do business on great waters, they see the works of the Lord, and His wonders in the deep.” Psalm 107:23-24 NKJV

The very design of our planet screams Designer, our Creator God.

“Then God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so. And God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters He called Seas. And God saw that it was good.” – Genesis 1:9 NKJV

Jesus created the oceans and the living creatures in them. He also commands the waves.

“Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep. Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!” But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. So the men marveled, saying, “Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?” – Matthew 8:23-27 NKJV

“You rule the raging of the sea; when its waves rise, You still them.” - Psalm 89:9 NKJV

“He calms the storm, so that its waves are still.” – Psalm 107:29

The very God that can calm the raging waves by simply speaking, can calm the winds of strife in your life.

And just like in the story of Jesus sleeping in the boat on the sea of Galilee, he is asking you “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?”

“Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.” Mark 4:39 NKJV

Jesus longs to speak peace on our life. He longs to give you a calm and a peace that the world does not and cannot know. Trust Him to work in our life. Trust Him to take that bad situation, that raging storm, and speak peace into existence instead.

Jesus holds you in His hand. He longs for you to feel that connection and to grow that relationship. He is the best friend you will ever have. He is the big brother you have always wanted. He is your companion, and He is your Savior.

“But now ask the beasts, and they will teach you;

And the birds of the air, and they will tell you;

Or speak to the earth, and it will teach you;

And the fish of the sea will explain to you.

Who among all these does not know

That the hand of the Lord has done this,

In whose hand is the life of every living thing,

And the breath of all mankind?” - Job 12:7-10 NKJV
