Delays and Dropped Calls

Yesterday was Mother’s Day. I tried calling my mom several times. She tried me too. We could text just fine, but no matter how many times we dialed, our calls would not go through.
It was disappointing, especially on a day meant for connection, for hearing the voice of someone you love. And it made me think.
How often do we try to “call” out to God and feel like we are not getting through? We reach out in prayer, in effort, in longing, and yet…silence. No ring. No answer. Just the waiting.
But the connection was there, just not in the form we wanted. Mom and I could text. Our words still made it through, even if our voices did not. The connection was not broken, only different.
Sometimes God answers us not with the thunderous voice we hoped for, but in the quiet text of His Word. Not in the call, but in the whisper. Not in the way we expected, but in the way we needed!
I love the following description of searching for GOD:
“...And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper.” 1 Kings 19:11-12 ESV
God often reveals Himself not in the dramatic or overwhelming, but in the quiet, intimate moments. We may look for Him in the storms, the quakes, the fire, expecting a grand display, yet often He chooses to speak in a whisper, reminding us that His presence is close enough to be heard when we slow down, quiet our hearts, and truly listen.
And maybe, just maybe, the delays and dropped calls in our lives remind us to look for Him in other ways; to trust that the connection is still real, still alive, even when it feels limited or muted.
So if your call did not go through, don’t stop reaching out. Try a different line. God is still listening. Love still finds a way.
