In My Father's House

Updated: May 25, 2021

Good morning. It is Wednesday, April 28, 2021.

It is such a gorgeous morning! The moon was bright and beautiful this morning. It was shining in my bedroom window before the sun came up and it was full!

I always marvel at nature. It is my happy-place. I love praising God while looking at the trees and mountains, the fog along the river this morning, the birds in the air, and the wonderful sweet scent in the air this time of year. It is the sweet fragrance of the Madrone trees which are in full blossom right now. Our Creator was so thoughtful in His design!

Every morning on my way to work I pass a church that has a sign on the roof that reads: "Jesus is coming. Are you ready?" This morning it really resonated with me. Those six words are filled with our only hope and yet a caution as well.

Are you ready?

I LOVE John 14. I learned verses 1-3 as a child and can recite them to this day.

"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."

Several years ago I listened to a preacher that gave me a much more intimate look at those verses. He explained that the word mansion, in its original language and meaning, was "rooms" not mansions.

As a child my mind would run wild picturing the beautiful mansion that would be all mine when I got to heaven. And although we are told in Isaiah 64:4 that no one has heard or seen what God has planned for us, I had a pretty good imagination, and my mansion was awesome! But as an adult, when I learned that the original meaning was rooms, not mansions, my heart sored. Such an intimate look at our Heavenly Father. We will not be living in a mansion on a hilltop, although that would be awesome, we will be in our own room in our Father's house. What a visual. And yes, His house must be huge!

Many of us have prepared for company coming to visit and stay. When my children were young, I would have a chore list as long as my arm in preparation for company. We cleaned, we scrubbed, we washed sheets and blankets, even windows and baseboards, the top of the fridge...everything that would not be done on a normal cleaning day, got done. I wanted everything fresh and spotless when my guests arrived. (I still do) I wanted my friends and family to be totally comfortable when they arrived. So does Jesus.

Jesus longs for us to live with Him. John 17:24 ESV "Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world."

If you really think about that fact it should cause you to fall deeply in love with our Savior. He longs for us. He pleads for us. He stands in our defense. He paid the price for our sin. What a God!! Not only did He pay the price but when He ascended to Heaven, his parting words were: I am going to prepare a place for you and I will be back to get you.

John 14:6 tells us that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. He is coming. Are you ready?
