Good morning. It is Monday, October 18, 2021.
Did you miss me?! 😊
It feels good to be writing again. It feels good to feel good enough to write. I have been home sick since late last Tuesday night and, in fact, am writing from home this morning. I hope to be back to work very soon.
Sore throat, slight fever, sneezing, coughing, runny nose, water eyes, body aches. I sound like an Alka-seltzer ad.
I have such great friends! Alta suggested good things to begin taking such as Vit C, D, Zinc, Garlic, fresh squeezed lemon in warm water with a pinch of cayenne pepper (that was really soothing!) Throat Coat Tea etc. Denise made the almost 45- minute round trip to my house, after shopping for said items. Terah brought me grapefruit juice, Tylenol and aspirin and a wonderful winter squash puree soup (YUM!). My roommate Julie blended tomato juice and about a dozen cloves of garlic for me to drink. I am feeling MUCH better.
My praise through all of this is God has kept me healthy since 2017.
Not one time during Wendell’s entire cancer journey did I have a cold or other illness that, a) brought me down or b) would compromise his health. I think it is amazing that, except for headaches and symptoms from fibromyalgia, I have not been sick for 4 years!
I have missed my morning writings! Today I want to update you on my newest household members: Ricky and Maizy. They are two kittens rescued from a shed at about 1 week old.
My friend and co-worker Denise found them and between the two of us, and a couple others, we fed, bathed and loved these kittens to health.
There was bottle feedings every 2 to 2 ½ hours. Warm baths in the lower regions to help everything run smoothly 😉 Litter box training and medicine when needed.
I was the “nanny” at work and soon fell in love with this brother-sister duo. When asked if I would like them, as she would need to find a home for them, I said ‘yes’.
We estimate they were born around August 28th, making them now approximately 7 weeks old. Their instincts are strong. With no mommy to show them, they knew how to scratch and dig and cover “it” up. They knew how to groom themselves. I watched all these firsts and it made me happy. The first day outside in the sun. The first time they ran, following me everywhere I went. The first climb, the first jump, the first playful sessions. They are growing fast!!
The videos I am sharing with you are a bit of an object lesson. What do you see in it? The brand-new scratching post I bought and assembled. The new cat tree that I bought and assembled with the help of my roommate. The colorful toy that Denise bought them, the various dog toys and cat balls…all sit untouched and unused. They would rather play with the plain paper. I took great joy and great care in selecting these things for them. But they really do not care.
Is that not just like us sometimes?
God gives us the best gifts. He pours out blessings on us, material and spiritual, and just like these kittens we shun those gifts for something cheap and plain. Why, because it sounds better. It feels better. Perhaps it is easier.
Friend, Jesus gave us the best gift of all. His life for ours. His blood for ours. He paid the price for us! Why would we turn our back on that and go after the things of the world? His gift is too important to ignore. It is to important not to share with others.
Jesus gave up heaven, and took a chance, on you and on me.
There were no guarantees! Truly He was tempted. And if He gave in, even one time, to those sinful temptations, we would be lost for eternity. Satan would have won and Heaven would have lost.
Heaven would have lost the Son of God and heaven would have lost us. Heaven would have lost to a planet that, mostly, could care less about the love and sacrifice that was being offered on their behalf.
Oh, what love my friend! What incredible, indescribable love!!
Matthew 4:1-11 paints a vivid story of temptation to sin:
…And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry.
Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”
But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’”
Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written:
‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’ and, ‘In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’”
Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’”
Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.”
Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’”
Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.” - NKJV
Did you catch that? Jesus was tired and hungry.
The devil does his best work when we are beat-down, exhausted, and hungry. He tried his best, three times! He even quoted scripture! But Jesus held firm. Praise God, He held firm!!
It could have ended very badly for planet earth. But that is not how it ended.
It ended with Jesus mournfully asking “…“Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” Matthew 27:46 NKJV
He felt utterly and totally separated from His Father. He could have called ten thousand angels to get Him off that cross!! We will never understand the totality of what He did and how He felt, but He did it for you; for me.
How does that old song go?...
He could have called ten thousand angels
To destroy the world and set him free
He could have called ten thousand angels
But he died alone, for you and me
Continuing with verse 50:
“And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit.
51 Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split, 52 and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; 53 and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many.”
Can you wrap your mind around the mighty of power of His Spirit? The very act of taking His last breath, caused the earth to quake, rocks to split and graves to open. Many saints who had died were brought back to life and walked into town!
Can you imagine the surprise and joy of their families? What power! A power that is all ours!
Jesus is coming back to get His people. He promised He would and God does not lie. He is coming back and all signs point to “VERY SOON”
Live like today is your last day. Forgive easily and often. Curb your tongue. Check your attitude. Ask God to forgive your sins. Ask the Holy Spirit to live and work in your life. Thank Jesus for the amazing gift His blood on a Roman cross purchased for you.
Live like you are waiting for Jesus to appear in the clouds, because one day we will hear trumpets sounding and we will look up, and there, in the sky, along with millions of angels, will be our Jesus, coming to save us. Coming to lift us off this planet. Coming to make things right. Be ready. He loves you and wants you to be with Him.
"Or do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels?" Matthew 26:53 NKJV
