Keys That Will Open

Let me ask you a question. How many passwords do you have? I'm not sure how many I have. I would say close to 15; maybe more!

If we want to purchase something online? Password. Banking online? Password. Pay bills online? Password. Alarms. Door codes. Email. Our lives run on passwords.

Can you remember when you had one, maybe two, passwords? And neither of them was attached to anything electronic? For instance, knocking on a door and being asked from behind that hinged, wood panel, "What's the password?"

Maybe you had a clubhouse, and you were only allowed entry if you knew the Secret Password: "Girls Rule; Boys Drool".

Passwords. Those words, numbers or actions that allow us entry; enabling us to unlock something that would otherwise be inaccessible. A series of secret knocks, or a specific whistle, or a series of telephone rings. Perhaps a hidden key.

Passwords and keys allow us access. Airport lockers, school lockers, bike padlocks, car doors, house doors, office doors.

I suddenly think of two drawers in my home that belonged to my husband. As with any passing, sooner or later you begin to clean out their areas. Clothes, shoes, toiletries, hobbies, tools, etc. I donated most everything after giving some treasured things to my kids, but I kept two of his drawers. One bathroom drawer and one dresser drawer. I don't know why. It just seemed like the right thing to do. I was going through Wendell's small dresser drawer just last week, just remembering the man he was.

In this drawer are his wallet, glasses, black face mask, coins, writing pens, a small painted rock that resembles a pickle with the words "Dill with it" on the back. Our friend Laurie painted that for Wendell.

You'll find his old Bottle Drop card, a clear cell phone case that never fit any of the phones we had, some random happy meal toys that he was sure would be worth money someday, and a pressed penny souvenir from the Oregon Coast Aquarium. But the most impressive items in this small 7"x8" drawer are the keys.

For the purpose of this writing, I pulled that small drawer out of the dresser and brought it to my office. I pulled them out and laid them on my desk, side by side...10 key rings, WITH KEYS, and one random key. (I have no idea!) Who needs 10 key rings? But here is the other thing. Of all the keys, and there are a total of 26 keys, 11 of them are keys to padlocks. What do all these keys go to? Why so many padlocks? Where are these padlocks?

Those are questions that will never be answered but the one thing I know is that each of those keys allowed the entry or opening of something important in his life.

There was a place in Paris where couples declared their love for each other by placing a padlock on the chain link fence that is on Paris’s Pont des Arts bridge. After locking the padlock onto the fence, they would throw the key into the river. This act was to signify the bond and commitment to one another; that nothing could unlock their love for each other. It was a sweet romantic gesture that eventually led to collapse.

A padlock doesn't weigh much by itself, but tens of thousands of padlocks? That's another story entirely.

A section of the fence that had been covered in locks collapsed. French officials took down all of the locks with their final weight at 45 tons! The 700,000 keys are still at the bottom of the Seine.

By the way, love locks spread to 11 other bridges in Paris, and today can be seen on New York’s Brooklyn Bridge, Cologne’s Hohenzollern Bridge, the Love Bell on Japan’s Enoshima Island and others.

Passwords and keys. They both serve the same purpose. To protect until such time as it can be unlocked.

There is a different kind of unlocking happening in our time. It is happening right now, and it is exciting!

Some 2,500 or 2,600 hundred years ago there was a young guy, perfect body, handsome, super smart, well informed, quick to understand, well, you get the idea.

He was given many visions of the future and even had the honor of visits from Gabriel explaining to him what he was seeing.

Some 2500, 2600 years ago he was told to, “...shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.” Daniel 12:4 NKJV

We are there friends. This is the 'time of the end' the Bible was talking about.

There is MUCH running to and fro. Our knowledge has increased!

From an article on Industry Tap written by David Schilling...human knowledge, on average, is doubling every 13 months. We are quickly on our way, with the help of the Internet, to the doubling of knowledge every 12 hours. To put it into context, in 1900 human knowledge doubled approximately every 100 years. By the end of 1945, the rate was every 25 years.

"Knowledge shall increase" ? Check.

"And he said, “Go your way, Daniel, for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. Many shall be purified, made white, and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand." Daniel 12:9-10 NKJV

I have been to several seminars on Daniel and Revelation. I know a little bit, but there are some people out there that have really studied and devoted their lives to teaching the truth of the Bible and helping unlock the words on the pages of Daniel and Revelation. I wanted to give a couple of recommendations.

Cami Oetman hosts "Unlocking Bible Prophecy". I really enjoy the way she presents. She speaks plainly and clearly. God's plan just jumps off the pages of the Bible as she facilitates several topics.

"Salvation in Symbols" with Pastor Jim Rafferty and Pastor Ivor Myers is the other recommendation. These guys know their stuff when it comes to Bible Prophecy! God has given them both a gift, and when you put them together at the same table, it is a true learning experience. Everything they say they back up and it all makes sense.

You can find both on YouTube

I guess my point today is 2-fold.

Firstly, we do not need a password or a key to gain access to our Abba in the throne room of heaven. Hebrews 4:16 tells us to come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Secondly, we are living in that time of earth's history when knowledge has increased! We are constantly running at breakneck speeds. Prophecies are being fulfilled and Jesus is coming soon!

It's time to quit playing with the world and get ready. It's easy to get caught up in the things this planet offers, but it's time to put the world aside and let Jesus be king of our life.

"When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things." 1 Corinthians 13:11 NKJV

None of us are promised tomorrow, so why put off that one thing that will save your life: the simple act of inviting Jesus into it. Whether you have, multiple times or not even once, do it. Do it today. Do it right now. He is waiting.

I'll leave you with the words of a favorite song.

The Savior is waiting to enter your heart

Why don't you let Him come in

There's nothing in this world to keep you apart

What is your answer to Him

Time after time He has waited before

And now He is waiting again

To see if you're willing to open the door

Oh how He wants to come in

If you'll take one step toward the Savior, my friend

You'll find His arms open wide

Receive Him, and all of your darkness will end

Within your heart He'll abide

Time after time He has waited before

And now He is waiting again

To see if you're willing to open the door

Oh how He wants to come in
