Good morning. It is Wednesday, November 3, 2021.
I lead praise and worship music at my church this weekend. It is a duty I love. Nothing quite fills my cup like singing praises to my Savior.
I have been making a list of song titles for the past two weeks…Peace Be Still. It Is Well with my Soul. I Love you Lord. His name is Wonderful.
Last time I led music I had a member tell me he felt like he was a rock concert, so I am trying to tame it down a bit 😊
I love these songs. They speak to how powerful and mighty is our God.
PEACE BE STILL:
“He says peace, peace be still
Lifts his hands, peace be still
Like a child the winds obey him
When he says peace be still”
IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL:
And Lord, haste the day when the faith shall be sight,
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
Even so, it is well with my soul.
I LOVE YOU LORD:
I love you, Lord, and I lift my voice
To worship you, Oh my soul rejoice!
Take joy, my King, in what you hear
May it be a sweet, sweet sound in your ear
HIS NAME IS WONDERFUL:
He is the Mighty King
Master of everything
His Name is Wonderful
Jesus My Lord
The name of Jesus. A name that is above all other names.
“Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:9-11 NKJV
I taught my kids, if you are ever in trouble, if you are scared, if you need help, call out loud the name of Jesus. He will send His mighty angels to help you and protect you.
My daughter once told me that, as an adult, she was in a position where she was frightened. It was the middle of the night and suddenly she remembered what her mother had taught her. She said out loud “Jesus”, and suddenly she felt at peace. Suddenly her fear was gone. She said, "It worked mom!"
Indeed. There is power in the name of Jesus!
At the name of Jesus broken hearts can be mended.
At the name of Jesus, the dead are raised to life. Sinful men and women are changed. Lives are transformed. Hatred turns to love. Bitterness turns to joy. Harden hearts become soft and forgiving. Doubt turns to faith.
The Romans tried to kill it. Science has tried to disprove it. Mockers laugh at it. But there is power in the name of Jesus.
Who is He? Is He only ‘Jesus’?
John, referring to the story of creation, called Him the Word.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.” - John 1:1-3
He told Moses His name was “I AM”.
“Then Moses said to God, “Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they say to me, ‘What is His name?’ what shall I say to them?” And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” - Exodus 3:13-14 NKJV
“Then the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?” Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.” - John 8:57-58 NKJV
He is the Alpha and the Omega; the First and the Last.
He is the Almighty. He is the Great I AM.
He is Conqueror and Creator. He is the Chief Cornerstone, the Great Shepherd.
He is the First Begotten and the Head of the Church.
He is the Lamb of God and the Lord of the Sabbath.
We are told He is a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.
He is our Messiah, the Prince of Peace, the Righteous Judge, and our Redeemer.
He is the Resurrection and the Life; He is our Rock and the Root of David.
He is the Vine, the Bread, the true Light, the Water of Life.
He is the Way and the Truth.
“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” - Isaiah 9:6 NKJV
His name is Wonderful!
