It Could Be You

A man saw a girl tossing stranded starfish back into the ocean. He told her she could not possibly save them all. She smiled, picked up another starfish, and said, “I made a difference for that one.”

Like that girl, we, too, can make a difference. Maybe not in a way the world notices, but in our own small corner. One person, one action, can change lives.

I have long been inspired by Max Lucado. His writings speak to me in deep and meaningful ways. About three years ago, give or take, I came across one of his writings about Noah; and although I have written about this in the past, I want to look at it again this morning.

After months of floating on endless water, Noah sent out a dove. At first, it returned empty. But one day, it came back carrying a small olive leaf. That simple leaf was proof, hope was on the horizon. Noah could not see the dry land, but he knew it was there.

The story of Noah, found in Genesis 6-9, tells of a world filled with violence and evil. The Bible tells us that God was grieved and decided to destroy everything, except for Noah, who “found grace in the eyes of the Lord.” See Genesis 6:8.

Because of his faithfulness, humanity was given a new beginning.

One man changed everything! Have you ever thought about that? If Noah had not been “perfect in his generations,” we would not be here. He walked with God, and God used him to preserve life. And it only took one person.

It makes me think, what can one person do? Can my vote matter? Can I really make a difference in my world? Yes. I believe that answer to be, yes! It could be you!

So, get out there. Save a starfish!
