Good morning friends. It is Monday, April 26, 2021.
Last week was rough, in many regards, but the main points were the fact that two of my adult children celebrated their birthdays for the first time without their dad.
We all miss him so much!
I had given a friend some of Wendell's t-shirts after he passed away. She made them into pillows and I gave each one a pillow on their birthday. It was special.
Wendell loved his pocket T's. He rarely wore anything else and he always kept his money in the pocket of his t-shirt. My children and grandchildren all knew where to go for money.
That trusty pocket.
I have a photo of our granddaughter Ellie, at about 2 years old, gleefully being held in grandpa's arms and pulling money out of his pocket. It's a sweet memory.
My daughter received a pillow made from a t-shirt she had actually gifted her dad with one year. My son received a green t-shirt pillow...his favorite color. The friend who made the pillows stuck a dollar bill in each pocket in Wendell's memory.
Both days were bittersweet but we have a Redeemer who is acquainted with all of your sorrows!!
Psalm 34:18 NIV "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
I was reading Job this morning. I just opened my Bible at random, and there, highlighted, were some verses that I had marked some time ago. They were meaningful to me then and even more so this morning.
From The Clear Word Bible, Job 13:19, 20, 24 "O God, please listen to me...grant me two things before I present my case to you. Please stop all these things that are happening to me and help me not to be afraid of you....why are you hiding yourself from me?"
Job was in a world of hurt when he said, in chapter 14:1-3, 5, 6 "Man is born of a human mother and has a short life span with endless troubles. He springs up as a flower in the summer sun but soon withers and dies. He appears and then fades away like a fleeting shadow. O God, will you be bothered to consider such a short-lived creature? Will you take time to hear my case? In one way, it's good that the length of man's life is generally fixed and the number of months he should live are limited. If all this is so O Lord, why don't you just leave man alone and let him enjoy his short, hard life the best he can?"
Do you ever feel like God has withdrawn from you? As if that closeness you were feeling is suddenly gone? I have. I also know it is just a feeling. God is always there. He is always watching over us. He is always working on our behalf. But sometimes it "feels" differently.
That is where faith comes in. And your faith must be strong to get you through those times. You must know that you have someone in heaven that cares deeply about what you are going through. Friends will not always understand, but Jesus always does.
Job 16:19-21 "I know my witness is in heave; the Holy One is my Advocate, ready to testify in my behalf. He is my Intercessor and knows the tears I've shed. He pleads my case with God as a man pleads for his friend."
Like Job, I know my intercessor is in heaven.
According to Merriam Webster the definition of intercede: to intervene between parties with a view to reconciling differences.
THE CHARACTERISTICS OF AN INTERCESSOR. An intercessor is a person who by calling or by nature chooses to be a mediator on behalf of those who cannot intervene for themselves.
I love that! Jesus chose to stand as our intercessor.
So, when times are hard, and they will be hard at times, just know that you have someone that truly understands what you are going through. A God that is close to you. Someone that loves you deeply, someone that is coming to get you.
Job 19:25 "I know I have a Redeemer who lives and will defend me. In the end He will come to earth and take me home."
Have a wonderful day! May God richly bless you, guard and protect you. And remember, Jesus is coming soon!
