From Thursday, March 11, 2021.
It's a bit overcast this morning, but a good morning none the less.
On my to work this morning I passed a field with a flock of sheep. I noticed one little lamb getting breakfast from its mother and it made me smile.
Did you know that sheep are mentioned in the Bible more times than any other animal?
Over and over again people are compared to as sheep and Jesus the good shepherd.
Mark 6:34 says Jesus had 'compassion' on the huge crowd because they were like sheep without a shepherd.
John 10:14 "I am the good shepherd; I know my own sheep, and they know me."
As I was growing up I was taught about the Love of God and the sacrifice on the cross of His son Jesus, and one of my favorite stories was the parable of the lost sheep.
There were 100 sheep and one of them was lost. The good shepherd left the 99 to find that one lost sheep. When He found the sheep, he joyfully puts in on his shoulders and carries it home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors and asks them to celebrate with him.
Luke 15: 7 goes on to say "I tell you that in the same way there will be rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over 99 righteous persons who do not repent."
Wow! I have often compared myself to that lost sheep; and what joy it brings to my heart to see the visual of Jesus, wrapping me in His arms and bringing me safely home!
Now imagine, you are that sheep; Jesus is the good shepherd that loves you and takes such good care of you, so much so that he would leave the 99 to come searching for you.
Psalm 23 NIV. "The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He refreshes my soul. He guides me along right paths for His name sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and staff they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."
I hope your days is blessed! And remember: Keep looking up! Jesus is coming soon!
