Gravel in His Pocket; Glass in His Clothes

Good morning. It is Thursday, September 16, 2021

I want to talk about a miracle that happened about 2 weeks ago. I am not going to name names, but one of my grandsons rolled Wendell’s car. I had loaned the car to him because his vehicle got really bad gas mileage and he had recently moved in with me. It is a bit of a trek to town and with my granddaughter moving out, that freed up Wendell’s car.

My grandson was driving home late one night when a deer jumped out in front of him. His wheels caught the gravel, and he rolled the car. The insurance company has told me it is a complete loss. Although I am sad that Wendell’s car will no longer sit in my driveway or be driven by one of his grandchildren, I am excited about what I am going to tell you next.

Both air bags deployed. The side bag in the driver’s door and the front air bag. He did not sustain a single bruise from the impact. He found glass in his clothing but not a single cut. He found a piece of gravel in the pocket of his jeans! Imagine that! And yet not a single scratch. He opened the car door and exited on his own with no injuries. He was a bit stiff, and his tailbone hurt for a few days, but no other injuries in a roll over crash. Praise God!!!

He had a hard time dealing with the fact that he was the cause of the accident. I told him he did not cause the accident; the deer did. He choked up when he would talk about it. I told him “It’s just a car”.

Every day for a week, he would say “Grandma, I just don’t understand how I walked away from the wreck with no injuries.” And every single day I would tell him it was his guardian angels and his Heavenly Father that protected him.

Psalm 91:11,12 “For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.” NKJV

He would say “I have had friends die in wrecks less severe than this” and I would tell him, it was not your time to die. He would say “I just think about it all the time and wonder how I got out of that car with no injuries” and I would tell him, “Every time you think about it, thank God for sparing your life.”

Psalm 91:4 “He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.” NKJV

I am thankful, so very thankful, that God spared his life; that he walked away with no injuries; that I did not get a call from the hospital or a knock on my door; that angels were dispatched to protect and help him.

Strong's Exhaustive Concordance tells us the word angel is from an unused root meaning to dispatch as a deputy; a messenger; specifically, of God.

My dictionary tells me “Deputy” means a person whose immediate superior is a senior figure within an organization and who is empowered to act as a substitute for this superior.

What a thought.

Psalm 48:1 “Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in His holy mountain..” NKJV

This accident opened a dialogue between us where I was able to talk about Jesus coming soon and that he was obviously saved because God wanted my grandson to know Him!

Psalm 145:3 “Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; and His greatness is unsearchable.” NKJV

I cannot help but sing that song by David Daughtry:

God is great and greatly to be praised

Glory, Glory to his name

I know that God is great and greatly to be praised

Bless the Lord, O my soul

I will bow before his majesty.

I will lift my hands and sing.

I know that God is great and greatly to be praised

Bless the Lord, O my soul.
