Good morning. It is Friday, April 30, 2021.
I had some very weird dreams last night. They were ridiculous. I woke up this morning just shaking my head and wondering where did that come from?!
One of my sisters once asked me if I dreamt in color? I do, but did not realize that not everyone does.
My favorite dreams are of flying; soring over mountain tops, down through valleys, along rivers and streams. Those dreams do not happen often, but they are by far my favorite dreams.
I have had times in my life where all of my dreams were about running and hiding and being fearful. I have gone stretches of time where I could not remember anything I had dreamt the night before. I have had dreams with music and suspense and I have had dreams that left me wishing I had not awakened so soon.
Do you know that in spite of all the scientific study of dreams, they still do not have a solid answer for why we dream. Humans have contemplated for thousands of years, but still have no sure answer for why we dream.
The Bible says that God uses dreams to speak to man. I am not suggesting all of our dreams come from God! Please understand that, but I do believe He can and does use dreams at times to communicate with us.
Job 33:14-18 ESV "For God speaks in one way, and in two, though man does not perceive it. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, while they slumber on their beds, then he opens the ears of men and terrifies them with warnings, that he may turn man aside from his deed and conceal pride from a man; he keeps back his soul from the pit, his life from perishing by the sword."
I had an amazing dream about 6 years ago. I dreamt I was in my bedroom, everything looked normal, and I heard a noise outside. I opened my backdoor and stepped out onto my steps, looking up. There in the sky was the most amazing scene. The sky was as if it had a large hole in it. The hole was bordered with HUGE jagged blue crystals. The crystals were larger than the Empire State building and they jetted off in many directions. It was absolutely breath taking. In the middle of the hole was Jesus and behind him millions of angels. The sound was like nothing I had heard before. I yelled back into the house, "WENDELL! JESUS IS COMING!" and I stood there staring up, smiling, with my heart OVERFLOWING with joy! It was SO REAL! And then I woke up.
I should mention this was at a very, very dark time in my life. I believed then, and still do, that Jesus gave me that dream to encourage me. And encourage me it did!
I recently read an article regarding modern day dreams. I tried finding it today so I could quote it more accurately and give credit, but I will summarize. The article said that many Muslims from around the world are coming to Christ because they have had a dream about Jesus.
I read of an ISIS member who had a dream of the cross, and then somehow found himself browsing a Christian website. He became a believer.
I heard a story of a missionary in a country where Christianity is outlawed getting into a taxi late in the day. He felt God impress on him to share Jesus with the taxi driver. He was fearful and kept putting off the prompting. He arrived at his destination, all the while feeling led to say something. He got out of the taxi, paid the driver and began walking away when the feeling was just too overwhelming. At the risk of being discovered and jailed or even killed he turned and said "Wait!" He then began to quietly share Jesus with the taxi driver. The taxi driver basically said "there you are!" You see the taxi driver had a dream the night before. In the dream He saw Jesus and was told that a man would get in his taxi that day and tell him more about the one true God. He was told if he wanted to be saved, he would listen. What an amazing story!
When I think of dreams I often think of the story of Jacob or Daniel and King Nebuchadnezzar. The Bible is packed with stories of God speaking to man through dreams.
In 1 Kings 3:5 He spoke to Solomon in a dream
In Acts 18:9 the Lord spoke to Paul in a dream
In Genesis 31:24 He spoke to Laban in a dream
In Genesis 15:1 He spoke to Abram in a vision
In Matthew 1:20-23 He spoke to Joseph in a dream.
The list goes on and on.
I guess my point is God can still use dreams to encourage us, to warn us, to save us. And although I know not all dreams come from God, I do believe that some dreams come from God. And I believe as we live in these end times, God is using dreams even more to reach His children.
Acts 2:17 NIV "'In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams."
Have a blessed day and a wonderful weekend! And remember, Jesus is coming soon!
