Don't Forget the Water

Good morning It is Thursday, May 13, 2021.

It was about 80 degrees yesterday in Grants Pass. Warm but not bad. Grants Pass is notorious for being the hotspot in the state of Oregon during the summer. A nod I could frankly do without We have a slogan here, in fact there is a large lit sign over 6th street, "It's The Climate"

The sign was an idea of local resident Mr. John Hampshire an engineer and road contractor. Arriving in Grants Pass in 1917, Mr. Hampshire started promoting the slogan he created, "It’s the Climate", to all the local businesses. Mr. Hampshire received permission from the railroad (railroads owned most of the right of way in those early times), and he paid a sign company to create an "It’s the Climate" sign. John Hampshire paid the entire cost of the sign, plus shipping, and donated it to Josephine County. The "It’s the Climate" sign celebrated its 100th birthday on July 20, 2020. - https://www.grantspassoregon.gov/396/Historic-Grants-Pass

Back to yesterday's heat. I have over 80 pots and planters including plants and trees in the ground, and I had not watered since Sunday. Some of them were very droopy, especially my Hellebores.

I did not have time to water yesterday morning and did not get home until almost 7:30pm but I thought about those plants all day! I typically water every day when it starts to get above 75. And in the summer when it gets in the high 90's and triple digits, often times I water early in the morning and late in the afternoon. The first thing I did after parking my car yesterday was turn on the hose and give everything a good soak.

I have a pastor friend who sends out inspirational quotes and readings every morning and today was on prayer. Thanks Pastor Bob!

"Consecrate yourself to God in the morning; make this your very first work....this is a daily matter. Each morning consecrate yourself to God for the day. Surrender all your plans to Him, to be carried out or given up as His providence shall indicate. Thus day by day you may be giving your life into the hands of God, and thus your life will be molded more and more after the life of Christ." - Steps to Christ

I have discovered throughout my life, that without Christ I am nothing. Without starting my day in prayer I am just like those plants that were beginning to wilt. I feel droopy and sad, I have no motivation or energy. And like those plants I can do nothing on my own. I cannot water myself, it has to come from the Creator! The master of my life has to pour out His water; His living water.

John 4:14 "But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life."

Isaiah 58:11 "And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought...and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not."

God loves to hear from us! He loves it when we take time to communicate with Him. No problem is too big, or too small, that we cannot take it boldly to the throne of God. I love that about our Heavenly Father. He truly cares! Go to Him and be watered.

Jeremiah 29:12-13 “Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

The Bible is filled with prayer and praying people. I think of King David; he did a lot of praying. The Psalms are filled with his prayers and songs. He prayed about every situation in his life. He prayed for favor, he prayed for wisdom and forgiveness, he prayed when he was happy, he prayed when he was sad. He prayed when he was ashamed and he prayed when his heart was overflowing with gratitude.

2 Samuel 7:18, 20-22 ESV "Then King David went in and sat before the Lord, and he said: “Who am I, Sovereign Lord, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? What more can David say to you? For you know your servant, Sovereign Lord. For the sake of your word and according to your will, you have done this great thing and made it known to your servant. How great you are, Sovereign Lord! There is no one like you, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears."

Ephesians 3:14-19 ESV "For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God."

May you comprehend the breadth and length and height and depth of Christ's love for you.

It surpasses all knowledge!

And don't forget to pray
